SADE STRIKES

80’s songstress Sade Adu is renowned for being saturated with soul. She equally deserves recognition for being a wholesome source of inspiration for the latest SS15 trends. Whether its double denim ensembles, traje de luces or sequin studded two pieces, Sade is one of The Mighty Muses to be calling upon.

Sade is the original double denim debutante who turned a pairing which should have been a hefty taboo into something as enticing as forbidden fruit. Her side plait, sizable hoops and ornate bangle added some James Dean spunk to her translation of this Western fashion. This spring and summer the controversial Double D Trend is spreading like a stonewashed rash. Natasha Ndlovu, Hayley Badlwin and Rihanna are the clothes horses to replicate this look and pay true homage to the Double D Queen.

Bejeweled bodies and stark stomachs are inextricably bound to the Studio 54 discotheque trend. If you want to radiate glamour like a disco ball, remember when baring your midriff, less is more – but go wild coating your body in sequins. Chanel’s ’15 Spring Haute Couture showcases a demure take on this look demonstrating how to bare a midriff with a super classy demeanor.

Sade’s utilitarian look is easy wear which is incredibly easy on the eyes. Khakis, drab olives, buttons and fastenings were also favoured in Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Balmain’s SS15 shows.

Sade’s moments as a musical matador have been revived with the swift swoop of a red flag. Dolce & Gabbana’s SS15 catwalk showcased an Andalusian dream. Rich rogues and elegant ebonies seduced the show’s beholders. Structuring, embellishments, contouring and erotic colour palettes hit the bull’s eye at this show.

The British seaside was the inspiration for TOPSHOP’s SS15 catwalk, stripes and primary, block colours featured heavily. Sade, always a few decades ahead, looks like she was the first one to make it down to the pier.

Miranda Priestly: ‘Florals? For spring? Ground breaking.’

I suspect Miranda Priestly would find the SS white trend equally as earth shattering. However, each SS a white washed effect is always produced by the sun amicably accompanying the season. Sade proves this look doesn’t have to go hand in hand with angelic purity. Lips drenched in blood red and generous sized hoops add extra ounces of personality. Kendall and Alexa both recently channeled this look with a sultry edge.
